Dalby man to face court for murder

A Dalby man was transported to Toowoomba on Friday night after being  arrested and charged with arson, burglary and the murder of Dalby man Mark Wilkes.

The 43-year-old, who cannot yet be officially identified, will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday February 8.

Police worked on investigations with the homicide squad and conducted a series of interviews before making the arrest earlier today.

On Wednesday, January 20 neighbours alerted emergency services to a house fire at Mr Wilkes' residence in Edward Street at about 10.30pm.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the front living room and quickly extinguish the blaze.

They then found the body of Mr Wilkes, who was recognised by a number of fire fighters whom he had worked with.

Upon investigation detectives determined the fire had been deliberately lit.
