Driver so drunk she probably should've been dead

A WOMAN has been caught drink driving with a blood alcohol reading seven times over the legal limit.

Officers pulled the woman over for a random breath test on the Surat Developmental Rd near Tara.

She returned a reading of 0.365.

Dalby officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Terry McCullough said the reading was "extremely rare and potentially fatal".

He said he had seen drivers blow over 0.4.

"They do happen. It was more common 20-30 years ago," he said.

"It is not acceptable to the public. They know it is dangerous."

Dalby police conduct targeted random breath tests around pubs and clubs at the weekend.

Wallumbilla woman Robyn Margaret Smith, 47, lost her licence for two years after pleading guilty to drink driving in Dalby Magistrates Court.

Magistrate Kay Ryan described the reading as "extraordinarily high".

In addition to the licence disqualification, Mrs Ryan handed Smith an 18-month probation order.

Two other drivers were sentenced in court on Tuesday for high range drink driving.

Peter Kenneth Lowcock, 53, was breath tested after he failed to give way to a police vehicle.

He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.27.

Mrs Ryan fined Lowcock $1500 and disqualified him from driving for 15 months.

Adrianne Marie Doneley, 31, was intercepted on the Warrego Hwy at 2am on September 13 and blew 0.197.

Mrs Ryan did not record a conviction and fined her $1800.

She was also disqualified from holding a licence for eight months.

Dalby officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Terry McCullough said people in the community were more aware of the danger surrounding drink driving.

"People regularly ring up to report people they suspect of drink driving," Snr Sgt McCullough said.

He said the region's number of drink driving charges was "no worse than anywhere else".
