Stepfather accidentally strikes child in the face

A MAN has been handed a good behaviour bond for accidentally striking his stepchild in the face with a belt.

The 29-year-old man, who is not named to protect the identity of the child, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm while armed on September 23.

He used the belt to discipline the child, but struck them in the face inadvertently during a struggle.

The child suffered soft tissue damage around the eye.

The man pleaded guilty at Dalby Magistrates Court today.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck said the man should not discipline children with a belt in the future.

Mr Schemioneck handed him a $500 good behaviour bond.

No conviction was recorded.
