2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

FOR this weeks blog I'm looking at a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster coated in a stunning shade of AMG Alubeam Silver.

Sitting underneath the almost two-metre long bonnet is a 6.2-litre, 32-valve V8 engine which can produce up to 420 kW and 649 Nm of torque.

Although the engine displaces 6208cc, it is marketed as the "6.3" to commemorate Mercedes' famed 6.3-litre M100 engine: its first production V8.

Connected to that mighty engine is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends all the power to the rear wheels. This combined with the limited-slip rear differential allows this SLS to get extremely sideways!

Also, this particular Mercedes has a kerb weight of 1,621 kilograms.

All of this allows the SLS AMG to launch from 0-100kmh in 3.7 seconds, and it will keep accelerating until it reaches its electronically limited top speed of 317kmh, or nearly 200mph.

Back in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show when the hardtop SLS was launched, Mercedes-Benz claimed that the 6.2-litre (or as they say, the 6.3-litre) V8 in the car was the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in the world.

It didn't hold the title for long, as the $2.5-million Aston Martin One-77 soon arrived with a 559 kilowatt naturally aspirated V12.

Unlike the hardtop SLS, the roadster variant doesn't feature the outrageous but extremely cool Gullwing style doors, instead settling for ordinary doors.

Personally I think the Gullwing doors made the SLS something special and unlike anything else, but many people believed they were too much of a show-off.

Some other features that this particular Mercedes is equipped with includes 20-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires, a black leather interior with sport seats, alcantara strips on the steering wheel, carbon fibre interior trim, satellite navigation, and much more.

You can currently purchase a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster in Australia for around $400,000 plus on-road costs.
