300 truck tyres discovered dumped on roadside

PILES of illegally dumped tyres have been discovered between Chinchilla and Jandowae this week.

Police estimate about 300 large truck tyres were dumped sometime between Sunday and Tuesday morning on the corner of Jandowae Connection and Chinchilla-Wondai Roads.

Jandowae police Senior Constable David Holmes-Brown said he hadn't seen a mess of that size since coming to the region.

"There are smaller dump sites, but nothing of this scale," he said.

Jandowae police were notified by a member of the public and investigations are continuing.

Western Downs Mayor Paul McVeigh said it was disappointing to learn of the incident.

"This sort of dumping is not only illegal, it's environmentally irresponsible and it's disappointing to see this on the Western Downs where our residents and businesses do such a great job to abide by the law," Cr McVeigh said.

Sen Const Holmes-Brown said large penalties could be applied to persons found to be illegally dumping.

Anyone with information can contact the station on 46685320 or report via PoliceLink. Dumping can also be reported to council via 1300COUNCIL.
