Jimmy Barnes joins fight against Sutton Forest coalmine

AUSTRALIAN rocker Jimmy Barnes has joined the fight against a proposed coalmine near his hometown in the New South Wales Southern Highlands.

The music icon was among a group of angry Berrima residents protesting outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney yesterday as a meeting was held between the NSW Government and South Korean mining executives.

The proposed coalmine is in Sutton Forest, which lies in Sydney's water catchment.

"It's going to directly affect the ground water that feeds the Sydney catchment area, so this is going to affect my local area and it's going to affect Sydney's water and we have to stop it now," Barnes said.
