Accused shopping centre shooter faces 26 charges

A TOOWOOMBA man accused of firing a gun at a car which police claim left a man shot in the hand had his matters mentioned before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday.

Robert William Thomas Lasserre, 29, was not in court for the mention of his numerous charges including dangerous conduct with a weapon, discharging a weapon in a public place, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and threatening violence which arise from the alleged shooting in the car park of Westridge Shopping Centre late one night earlier this year.

His lawyer Peter Sloane told the court some of his client's matters would be subject to a registry committal in order to take them up to the higher court while others among the 26 charges would be dealt with by the court process.

There being no application for bail, Lasserre was remanded in custody to appear by video link from the prison for mention of all matters before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on August 17.
