Amy Winehouse's BAFTA tribute

DIRECTOR Asif Kapadia paid tribute to "intelligent, witty and beautiful" Amy Winehouse at Sunday's (14.02.16) BAFTAs.

The director picked up the Best Documentary award for 'Amy', his film about the late singer - who passed away in 2011 at the age of 27 - and revealed he wanted to show the true persona of the star, who battled addiction throughout her short life.

He said: "In the end it was all about Amy.

"We really fell in love with her when making the film. And our aim and mission was really to try and tell the truth about her.

"To show the world what an amazing person she was, how intelligent, how witty, how beautiful she was, before it all kind of got out of control and went a bit crazy."

Meanwhile, Amy wasn't the only late star who was remembered at the ceremony, which was held at London's Royal Opera House in Covent Garden for the 10th year in a row and hosted by Stephen Fry.

The late composer James Horner's theme from 'Legends of the Fall' played as stars including Alan Rickman, Wes Craven and Sir Christopher Lee were honoured during the in memoriam montage.
