Awarding the heroes of our communities

THE unsung heroes of our region were celebrated in Dalby this week for their service to our community.

The Queensland Police Service awards for the Dalby and Burnett region were held at Dalby Leagues Club on Wednesday, with several officers receiving deserved recognition for their efforts.

Sergeant Mark Woitowitz and detective Senior Constable Digby Ford from the Dalby station were celebrated for 20 years of service to QPS.

Senior Constable Sean Donaghy was given his award for 15 years.

Senior Constable Jessica Lynch was awarded her medal for 10 years of service, as well as administration officer Sylvia Hunter.

During his speech at the presentation, Acting Assistant Commissioner Brian Swan said these awards showed the dedication of officers in the region.

"The outstanding efforts of each officer enhances our reputation as one of the best police services in the world,” he said.

"It is important as a service we acknowledge the efforts made in defending our regions.”

Sgt Woitowitz said it was an honour to receive his award on Wednesday, stating it was hard to believe he had been in the job for 20years.

"It is fantastic to be recognised for all of the time and effort,” Sgt Woitiwtz said.

"It seems like only yesterday I started. I still love my job to this day.”
