12:50PM Rochedale 'gunman' now with police after major search

POLICE are speaking to a man in camouflage military gear, after officers swooped on the southern Brisbane suburb of Rochedale following reports of a gunman.

Police have confirmed a man is now in police custody after "running with a replica gun in parkland".

"He was not located in a school."

In video taken from a helicopter, the man can be seen talking to police before being helped into an unmarked police car.

Earlier reports suggested the man described as a potential gunman may have been carrying a fake machine gun.

Several police cars have left the area with Rochedale Road now opening up.

Brisbane schools 'in lockdown', police hunt alleged gunman

TWO schools in Brisbane south are reportedly in lockdown following reports of a man armed with a gun or toy gun.

A statement from Queensland Police confirms police are hunting a potential gunman.

"Police are currently responding to a report that was made at 11.10am that a man, potentially carrying a gun or toy gun, was walking in the Rochedale South area".

"Police are yet to verify this information or locate the man.

"Patrols are continuing in the area to substantiate the report.

"No further information is available at this time."

Brisbane media outlets are reporting Redeemer Lutheran and Rochedale State High School have each been locked down.

Police are now conducting searches through Rochedale Schools, with officers now drawing their guns as they prepare to enter buildings.

Translink has  confirmed its buses in the area -- routes 578 and 576 -- will be diverted away from where police are searching.

Police believe the gunman -- who is thought to be dressed in camouflage gear -- was last seen on Priestdale Road, near the scout hall.

News Limited is reporting there are now 14 police cars in the area, with officers dressed in bulletproof vests surrounding an early learning centre. They are using their vehicles as cover.

Other officers are in full protective gear including helmets.

These are very preliminary reports from the scene, so the details may frequently change.
