Queenslanders know Bundaberg Rum is the rum for them
GREAT beaches, adventurous theme parks, and brilliant climate are some of the things Queensland offers and when it comes to alcohol - Bundaberg Rum tops the list for rum drinkers.
Roy Morgan Research said 5.4% of Australian adults consumed some kind of rum in an average four weeks, but the figure jumped to 9.8% for those in the sunshine state.
And when it comes to dark rum consumption the taste for Bundaberg Rum is even greater with almost 6% of adults drinking it in an average four weeks, well in excess of the population average of 2.4%.
Bundaberg's Melbourne Hotel venue manager Stephen Evans said Bundy Rum was definitely a favourite at the Bundy Bar which served rums from around the globe.
"I think there is a certain expectation when it comes to locals and Queenslanders asking for a rum and Coke - they expect it to be Bundy Rum," Mr Evans said.
"And out of all our rums we sell Bundy is on top of the list.
"People will try everything from the spiced rums, white rums and all the different varieties but will also expect a basic rum and Coke to contain Bundaberg Rum."
He said he had worked in other areas across Queensland including Mackay and Brisbane and had found Queensland to be a Bundaberg Rum state.
"The people who come from Victoria don't have the expectation of a rum and Coke to contain Bundy Rum like we do," Mr Evans said.
Roy Morgan Research general manager consumer goods Andrew Price said in any given four-week period almost half the Australians who drank Bundaberg Rum were from Queensland.
Which suggested a sense of regional pride which may contribute to the spirit's popularity in its home state, especially since they saw the same over-representation of Queenslanders when it came to XXXX consumption.
The research stated Bundaberg Rum was enjoyed by above-average proportions of Queenslanders in all regions of the state, except the Gold Coast, with a popularity peak in Eastern Brisbane where 9.9% of residents drink it in any given four weeks and Cairns 7.8%.
