Best of the West car rally turns wheels for Dalby charity
CLASSIC car enthusiasts lined up their hot rods at the old Dalby RSL car park on Saturday to raise funds for local charities.
The Best of the West holds a fundraiser every year for local charities, this year specifically for the Kylie Louise Foundation.
All proceeds from the fundraiser run by the Dalby Regional Auto Group go towards the KL Foundation.
In honour of Mick Tierney and others who have lost their lives to cancer, the Best of the West provided an array of raffle prizes for the best-looking car and runner-up prizes that included car cleaning kits.
Mick Tierney was one of many who lost his life to cancer in May this year, a silent killer that does not discriminate between its victims.
President of the Dalby Regional Auto Group Jamie Dunlop said he had been friends with Mick for 25 years and the car rally was in honour of him.
"He would say 'f*** cancer, have a gr8 day'," he said.
"That was his sturdy attitude towards cancer."
Mr Dunlop said Mick was a huge car enthusiast himself and that they did the Bunya car run up to the mountains and back years before the club ever started.
Another part of the funds received through the KL Foundation will also go to local Dalby man Rodney Dahleimer who is seeking money to receive the latest stem cell treatments in a bid to walk again.
The owner of the best car on Saturday received a Best of the West skateboard as a rather ironic first prize.
