Serial pedophile cub scout leader to stay in jail, for now

A SERIAL pedophile who used his position as a Cub Scout leader to prey on children will remain behind bars despite almost finishing his sentence.

Jeffrey Wayne Davie was due to complete a 10-year prison term on May 26.

The State of NSW has successfully fought for a court order keeping him in jail for an extra four weeks to undergo psychiatric assessment, after which a final hearing will determine whether he is fit for release.

Davie, now 46, was jailed for sexually assaulting a boy at a State Emergency Services function in Newcastle in 2005. The attack came two years after he was released from a 12-year jail sentence for sexually assaulting 10 boys.

He used his position as a Cub Scout leader, babysitter and community volunteer to meet his victims.
