Toowoomba remains a city that surprises

IT WOULD seem Carnival of Flowers has depleted FiFi this week and she has taken her adventures to a place of recuperation.

I'm Nerida (Ruby Red Industries), the other half of FiFi's Adventures - the one behind the camera and sharing my knowledge of the happenings around town.

I present my top four things of interest up and coming in Toowoomba.

Ground Up Espresso has long been a supporter of music and the arts by hosting laneway events and markets.

This Saturday night they join forces with Ric's Openair Cinema to present Salt of the Earth.

Bring your own deck chair along and there will be a barbecue and drinks available.

Since forming in 2013, ex-local boy Dan Sugars and his partner in crime Troy Henderson from Go Van Go have turned heads locally and abroad with their electrifying brand of music.

The Brisbane-based garage rock outfit has just released their stunning new single I'm Lost But Well Travelled and are bringing their special brand of sonic explosions to the legendary Spotted Cow in support of their new EP Kill City: Switchblade on Friday, October 16.

They will be playing alongside the Ocean Party and local trio Star Club.

Mark this one in your calendar.

While I'm not so new to town any more, Toowoomba always seems to spring some surprises upon me, with a new venue popping up or changes to an existing space.

The Mixx Hair Salon pulled a sly one and did a cheeky renovation on us.

They have extended the little espresso bar into a full cafe boasting a range of delectable bites to devour with your coffee and more space to stretch your legs.

You can still get your fix of shopping, with a range of potted succulents and retro home wares soon to be a feature.

No Comply Gallery currently has a call out for artists wanting to be involved in Fastplant, No Comply's third annual skateboard exhibition.

A huge event is planned with 100 boards available and one killer opening night in November.

Works will be hung on the Kontraband Studios' 30m legal wall and the gallery space for an indoor/outdoor art show.
