Coast mum furious after complaint about son's cubby

A SUNSHINE Coast mum has vented her anger after a complaint was made about the cubby house her son built at the beach.

Jodi Assink said her son and two friends had spent two months building "a platform in the bush with a few nails hammered into a wattle tree".

"Everyone's dream when they're young is to build a cubby house," she wrote in a Facebook post.

Ms Assink said a neighbour complained to the council about the structure, but she said the boys had not "cut down trees and wrecked the dunes".

"I would rather my child build a cubby than do drugs and roam the streets," she wrote.

Commenters on the post got behind the boys.

"Kids being kids, doing something and constructive and having good, clean fun," Brett Andrew Smith said.

"I've got a spare hammer and nails if you need one."

Peter Powell said playing in the dunes was part of life growing up at the beach.

"Best part of being a Grom living near the beach is building a hut/cubby house," he wrote.
