Community organisation turns 55

Dalby Regional Arts Council, one of Dalby’s not-for-profit community organisations will celebrate a significant milestone on Saturday 7 March at the Dalby League’s Club. It’s our 55th anniversary!

What exactly is the organisation’s contribution to our community, you ask? The key goal of DRAC is to ensure that those living in our region have access to affordable first-class entertainment and exhibitions.

In addition, we also seek to provide performance opportunities for upcoming, local talent within our region; inspiring participation and developing a greater appreciation of the Arts within the younger members of our community.

Dalby Regional Arts Council also makes financial donations to a number of like organisations within the community to assist them in providing additional opportunities for all to enjoy.

President, Helen Gleeson strongly believes DRAC’s contribution to the community is vital. “While we may not make the same financial contribution to the local economy as our larger community organisations, what we do is in fact of equal importance.

We attempt to nurture the mental wellbeing of our citizens. The benefits to our community through the experience or participation in live performance – THE ARTS, simply cannot be underestimated.

Witnessing live performances brings far reaching benefits. It allows like-minded people to come together, to engage face-to-face, it uplifts people’s spirits, instils self-confidence, develops mental alertness and provides emotional and physical relief for those of us who make the choice to reside in this regional community.’

This year’s celebration will be particularly special because Simon Cleary, award-winning author and barrister will be joining us as guest speaker to discuss his third novel, The War Artist, and to share some interesting stories about his journey with literature, life and travel.

Why not come along and celebrate with us? The evening will commence at 5:30pm and costs $40 per person which includes savouries, a two-course meal, entertainment, a highly-engaging guest speaker and great company!

You don’t have to be a member to come along. Simply contact Helen Gleeson by 28 February to reserve your place. Seats are limited, so don’t delay. We’d love to see you there!
