A TEENAGE woman reported missing from Brisbane may be in the Western Downs town of Tara, police believe.

A public appeal for information was launched this afternoon to locate Emily Chapman, 18, who was last seen in Geebung, to Brisbane's north, about 9am Sunday.

Police said text messages were received from Ms Chapman's phone on Sunday afternoon indicating she was in the Tara area and possibly with an unknown man.

"Police and family hold concerns for Emily's safety and wellbeing as she is not answering her mobile phone or responding to text messages, and her disappearance is out of character," police said.

Ms Chapman was last seen wearing light blue jeans, a black and white baseball shirt from A Day to Remember, and black ballet flat shoes.

She was carrying a light blue back pack with a tan trim and a purple yoga mat in a canvas bag.

Ms Chapman is described as Caucasian, about 177cm tall with a solid build, long reddish hair, blue eyes and glasses.

Anyone who has seen Ms Chapman or has information about her whereabouts is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
