FOOTBALL: THE Chinchilla Cougars U16's continued their unbeaten run with a hard fought 5-2 victory over SB Tinting Kingaroy side in the Challenge Cup at the weekend.

The Cougars started brightly but it was Kingaroy that took the lead against the run of play when they were allowed too much time on the edge of the box and they fired home.

The Cougars didn't take long to equalise after a mix-up between goalkeeper and defender allowed Cameron Cardillo to poke home from close range.

Kingaroy soon made it 2-1 after they found themselves through on goal making no mistake from close range.

However, the Cougars came roaring back again and once again it was Cameron Cardillo that hit a long-range effort that slipped through the goalkeepers' arms and into the net to make it 2-2.

The Cougars came out firing in the second half and took the lead after Ben Smyth was allowed too much time to pick his spot and fired home.

It was soon 4-2 when Lachlan Cardillo finished confidently.

And the goal scoring was completed by Cameron Cardillo grabbing his hat trick with another tidy finish from close range.

Although the Challenge Cup do not do Finals as such the Cougars final game against the Conpak Earthmoving Redbacks from Kingaroy may as well be a grand final as the winner of that game being crowned champions.

With both teams undefeated it will be an exciting tussle that takes place in Nanango on the 26th of August.

Coach Tim Taylor said: "It will be a tough game I have watched them play a couple of times now and they are very strong all over the park. But in saying that we will go in with no fear as we have an amazing bunch of kids in this team that will fight for each other until they have nothing left.”

"I am very confident that we can get the job done as I still think we haven't played our best football yet. But we will have to be at our best as they are a very talented side”
