Dalby girl cleans up school awards after year like no other

A YEAR of constant roadblocks and unique challenges for schooling did not stop one Dalby student from smashing her goals in academia during her final year of schooling.

Our Lady of the Southern Cross student Kacy Miaco came away with a swag of awards at their ceremony on November 10 for her tireless hours of study.

Kacy’s achievements included the Living Your Faith award, Dalby Rotary Club Community Service award, subject awards for religion and ethics, biology, and legal studies, and an Academic Excellence award.

The Year 12 student even topped her grade by taking out the Academic Distinction for achieving at the highest level across all of her subjects.

Kacy said she was able to adapt to what was an unprecedented year for her cohort.

“I’d never imagine it’d turn out this way,” she confessed.

“But as conditions changed, my goals have as well, and I think I was able to adapt to that change.”

Kacy said she wasn’t expecting to be honoured with so many awards, but puts down her achievements to being passionate about her academic works.

“I try to put a lot of time and effort into everything I do since I like to stay motivated,” she said.

“Now I’m looking at going into law after I graduate for next year.”

When asked about what she’ll be doing for Schoolies, she said she’d be heading down the coast for a small celebration with friends.
