Dalby Show Society toasts new showgirl
KYMBERLEY Ryan was the toast of the Dalby and District Show Society on Saturday night, being crowned the 2018 Miss Dalby Showgirl.
The evening was an unofficial start to the Dalby and District Show season, as the show society now ramps up its preparations for the April event.
Miss Ryan said it was an honour to be awarded this year's showgirl crown, and wanted to spend the next year encouraging the younger community to become active in the show.
"We do not want to have a generation miss out on the past values of the show and what it means to the region,” Miss Ryan said.
"I would love to see more young women coming through these showgirl contests, and also other young people getting into the show and our agriculture.”
The title of Rural Ambassador for the region was awarded to Brad Smith, who said his aim for the year was to encourage school students to consider careers in the agriculture industry.
"I think maintaining the connection with local schools is important,” Mr Smith said.
"Letting kids know you can be at school and still study Ag is important, as well as showing them the pathways which are available to them.”
