A DALBY State High School student has assaulted a police officer.

Dalby police Sergeant David Tierney said officers were called to the Nicholson St campus, which was in lock down, at 1.30pm.

"Á 15-year-old male student was behaving in an agitated manner," Sgt Tierney said.

"Police responded and together with staff, the student was removed from the grounds."

The campus went into lock down again after the teenager returned at 2pm.

"While trying to remove him from the school, he assaulted an officer," Sgt Tierney said.

"He [the officer] suffered a minor injury to his head.

"The student was later released into the custody of his guardian.

"Police will deal with the matter through the juvenile justice system."

DSHS principal Dr Dean Russell said counselling was available for students and staff members.

"My first priority, as always, was to ensure the safety of students and staff," he said.
