Denmark to confiscate asylum seekers' valuables
THE Danish parliament has approved controversial laws aimed at dissuading refugees from coming to the country.
Police will be able to seize cash exceeding $2000 and items valued at more than $2000 from refugees.
Wedding rings and other items of sentimental value will be exempt.
Critics have likened the situation to the Nazi policy of taking valuables from Jews.
United Nations Refugee Agency spokesman William Spindler said it was "wrong to take away from people who have already lost so much".
