Divers miss medal at world titles

AUSTRALIANS Anabelle Smith and Maddison Keeney have finished fourth in the three-metre springboard synchro final at the world championships in Budapest.

The pair, Rio Olympics bronze medallists in the same event, qualified fourth for the 12-team final.

China's Yani Chang and Tingmao Shi won the event with Jennifer Abel and Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu of Canada and Russians Nadezhda Bazhina and Kristina Ilinykh the minor placings.

Keeney wouldn't have been too upset as she won the one-metre springboard for Australia's only gold medal at the meet.

Fellow Australians Domonic Bedggood and Declan Stacey were eighth in the final of the 10m platform synchro.

Chinese pair Aisen Chen and Hao Yang won the event, taking the country's tally to five gold medals from the seven events by the fourth day of the championships.
