Dolphins dive in to new swimming season

SWIMMING: Six Dalby Dolphins have swum their way to the state titles after success at Darling Downs.

Jessika Bliesner, Olivia Grubb, Jennifer Nothdurft, Natise Smith, Zahra Zwboda and Mitchell Hemmings qualified for the Queensland Short Course Championships to be held in Brisbane later in the month.

Coach Brian Shorter said qualifying times have chan- ged from previous years.

"If the swimmers keep performing this well, I anticipate that several more swimmers will reach qualifying standards for other State Championships to be held later in the season,” he said.

Last Sunday, 15 swimmers from the Dalby club participated in the Darling Downs Regional Short Course Championships.

There were 22 clubs competing at the event, and a number of swimmers bettered the previous bests in multiple events.

Bryce Krause, Thomas Calver, Charlotte McNeil, Olivia Grubb and Mitchell Hemmings qualified for the sprint championships, where Bryce Krause took out the regional sprint champion in the eight years age group.

Jessika Bliesner, Mitchell Hemmings and Bryce Krause came home as age champions in their respective age groups.

Mitchell Hemmings also took out the 13 years and over distance champion.

Shorter said Sunday's carnival was a good start to the 2019-2020 season.

"It is good to see so many swimmers improving their times so early in the season considering that some have only recently returned to training after a short break during the winter months,” he said.

"The results from the carnival were very encouraging given that the majority of swimmers entered a large number of events.”

Swimming club starts again on October 10. For information about registration, visit the Dalby Dolphins swim club website or Facebook page.
