Dragons lose fans in premiership race
ST GEORGE Illawarra's run as outright premiership favourite lasted just the one week, whilst the team that brought them crashing back to earth, South Sydney, is the big mover in the market for this year's title.
The Bunnies blew out to $26 after round five but following four wins from their last five games, betting agency Ladbrokes has slashed their odds to $9.
"They been ticking along under the radar somewhat for the past month or so, but when you take down the ladder leaders a week after they themselves outclassed the reigning premiers, there's no hiding anymore," Ladbrokes spokesman Roger Oldridge said on Monday.
The Dragons eased from $4.50 to $5 following the loss, which now has them equal favourite with the Melbourne Storm, who's price hasn't budged for some weeks.
The Roosters win over the Warriors saw their odds shorten a full point from $7 to $6 to sit on the third line of betting ahead of the Bunnies.
The Cowboys mini resurgence in the eyes of the bookies was short lived.
Having firmed from $15 to $11 after their win over Penrith a week ago, last year's runners-up have blown right out to $17 after losing to Wests Tigers.
The volatile nature of the Tigers premiership price continues; $26 out to $41 last week, the season surprise packets are now rated a $21 chance to complete a stunning fairy tale.
