Dress to impress at the picnic races

WITH the Dalby Picnic Races just around the corner, the countdown is on for fashionistas to organise last minute dresses, jackets and accessories.

The Dalby Shoppingworld Fashions on the Field is always a feature event of the day, with plenty of men and women putting in that little bit of extra effort in order to stand out.

The judges of this years parade will be television producer Sharen Kenny, her husband Ian Withnall and Brisbane fashion expert Dale Olsson.

Having been in the international fashion industry for over three decades, Mrs Kenny has a keen eye for threads.

"Every judge has their own criteria,” Mrs Kenny said

"But what I look for is the classics, that's the era I came up in, the 80s and 90s... It's those classic shapes that have a nice femininity to them, but they can still be modern.

"I love fashion icons such as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

"With the guys I like to look for the suave and dapper, guys can also lend themselves to being a bit cheeky.”

Mrs Kenny noted it's crucial the individual wearing the outfit genuinely enjoys what they have dressed themselves in.

"I always look for that winning smile, for me the personality absolutely makes the outfit.”

Through their business Palatine Productions, Mrs Kenny and her husband Ian have been able to see plenty of the Western Downs, and have been thoroughly impressed with the areas dress sense.

"We are currently spending a lot of time in Dalby... we love it, we absolutely love Dalby,” Mrs Kenny said.

"I recently hosted the Cocktails for a Cure event and that was very glamorous, the sea of fashion in Dalby for both men and women is incredible.

"Dalby is the most glamorous rural Queensland town that we've been through.

"This will be the first picnic races we've been to, so we're excited to see the essence of the land in the races.”

The Dalby Shoppingworld Fashions on the Field has over $7500 worth of cash and prizes to be won across the five categories; Best Dressed Classic Lady, Best Dressed Contemporary Lady, Best Dressed Gentleman, Best Dressed Couple and Best Millinery.

The gates open at Bunya Park Racecourse at 11am on Saturday, with a seven race card planned.
