Fake council email in circulation

SEVERAL Western Downs residents have received a hoax email, purportedly from a Western Downs Regional Council email address.

The fake council email directs residents to a website that is not associated with Western Downs council.

Council became aware of the phishing attempt at approximately 4pm this afternoon, after receiving several calls from concerned residents.

Representatives from the council have advised that if you are suspicious about an email, to not open any links, delete the email immediately and call Council on 1300 COUNCIL.

Council is investigating the phishing attempt.
