Fatal crash takes life of woman, leaves others injured

A WOMAN seriously injured in a deadly head-on crash in the Lockyer Valley more than a week ago remains in a Brisbane hospital.

The 48-year-old woman was the front passenger in a car headed east on Old Laidley Forest Hill Rd when it and an oncoming car collided about 12.15pm last Wednesday near Forest Hill Fernvale Rd.

She suffered "significant" injuries and was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

A Laidley woman, 25, who had been a passenger in the westbound vehicle, died at the scene.

The 58-year-old driver of the westbound vehicle, and two back seat passengers aged 22 and 20, were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries and have since been released.

The 36-year-old male driver of the westbound vehicle was also taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigations continue  into the cause of the crash with police expected to probe whether distracted driving was a contributing factor.

Early reports suggest speed was not a factor.
