Father to be found with drugs and weapons
A TEENAGE father-to-be fronted Dalby Magistrates Court for walking around town with drugs and a weapon.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Derek Brady, told the court Cameron Paul Egan, 18, was walking the streets of Dalby when police officers on patrol intercepted him.
Egan was observed to have dropped a small yellow vial which contained 2.3 grams of cannabis and half a gram of ice.
Upon a further search police also found a knuckle duster on the expecting father.
“It was for my protection,” Egan said.
The court heard at the time of the search Egan was already on bail for previously stealing goods from Supercheap Auto.
Sgt Brady continued to outline Egan had also broke into Thomas Manufacturing on the September 16 and stolen specialised Hitachi drills that only businesses could order.
He was caught, after advertising the hardware on Facebook for $100 for a friend.
Duty Lawyer Clare Graham asked the court to be lenient due to his age.
“My client is young, he has only been educated to a year 8 standard and is currently in the process of obtaining centrelink benefits”
Magistrate Rodger Stark ordered a nine month bail probation and encouraged Egan to seek counselling.
No conviction was recorded.
