Federal police join search for two missing women

NATIONAL appeals for information have failed to bring new leads on two missing persons cases which have baffled Darling Downs police.

Warwick woman Tanya Buckland, and Newtown woman Barbara Troughton remain missing, with few leads or ideas as to where the women could be.

The cases are not connected but are united by the length of time they have been gone, with Ms Troughton last seen more than a year ago.

Ms Buckland hasn't been seen since August, 2013.

Appeals from Queensland Police to interstate departments have failed to find any trace of the pair whom police believe could still be alive.

Recent posts on social media by the Australian Federal Police have cast the women back in the public's eye but they are yet to be located.

Ms Troughton was last seen on January 27, 2016, leaving her Newtown home with a sum of cash leaving behind a hand-written note.

Police said there was nothing to suggest she had met with foul play, and suggested financial difficulties at her takeaway store could have been behind her disappearance.

Police are concerned for the welfare of Ms Buckland and earlier this year revealed some of her possessions were found in a home connected to a man accused of murder.

"Even more perplexing are the photographs and letter the family received in the mail, presumably sent by Tanya, three months after her initial disappearance - the additional contact only providing the family with more questions than answers," the AFP's social media post read.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
