Finch back in ODI squad after firing in BBL

CRICKET: Aaron Finch says he has tamed his overly attacking mindset and was looking forward to rejoining the Australian one-day squad.

"When you're batting with Davey Warner at one end, Steve Smith behind you at three, it probably puts a little more pressure on you mentally to think 'Geez, I've got to get on with it'," Finch said.

"Instead of giving yourself 10, 12, 20 balls to take your first risk to then try and move the game on, I was probably doing it after four or five balls, like you would in a T20 game."

Finch was dropped for the current ODI series against Pakistan after scoring 0, 19 and 3 in December's 3-0 home series victory over New Zealand.

But the Melbourne Renegades star has earned a recall for the three-match ODI series in New Zealand after finishing the BBL regular season as the second-highest run scorer with four half-centuries.

Finch comes into the squad after selectors spelled David Warner and Usman Khawaja for the upcoming India Test tour.

"I thought I played quite well during the Big Bash," Finch said.

"I felt like I was hitting the ball really nice and my thought process was really clear.

"Being dropped, it gives you a chance to look back and reflect and analyse your game a little bit more than if you just roll from series to series," Finch said.

"It's always a bit of a rollercoaster when you get dropped. You see your career going down the drain ... and you wonder if you'll get your spot back."

Australia's three-match series against New Zealand begins at Auckland's Eden Park on January 30.
