FIRE UPDATE: Dalby State School will open tomorrow
DALBY State School will open its doors tomorrow, after closing due to the fire that tore through the school in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A spokesperson for the Department of Education and Training said that the decision was made after considering the safety of the school.
"The decision to reopen was made in consideration of student, staff and community safety, as well as site safety the highest priorities,” the spokesperson said.
"The Department is working with the Department of Public Works and Housing in the clean-up of affected areas to ensure the school is in a state of readiness to reopen.
"This includes ongoing site assessments, including the implementation of appropriate safety measures and monitoring.”
Community support has been pouring in all day, as businesses in the town organised fundraising for the school.
State member for Condamine, Pat Weir, said the community spirit in a difficult time was a testament to the town.
"The school is over 150 years old and this community has now lost a part of its history, Mr Weir said.
"Everyone is rallying to help rebuild and reopen, a real testament to the support of a small, close community.”
