SOMETIMES it's not enough that a car ticks all the boxes.

Sometimes it's a matter of wanting more.

Whether it's an unexpected surprise, or an added extra you discover along the way, I know personally, I get a lift out of a ride that goes above and beyond just the drive.

In terms of the Volkswagen Tiguan, I experienced first-hand the essence of 'extra' in their newest model.

The 130TDI R-Line features a unique combination of space, luxury, quality and comfort.

Offering a distinct combination of contemporary urban refinement and rugged durability, the Volkswagen Tiguan 130TDI R-Line is fully kitted out with a body kit, tinted windows, rear spoiler and 18" Mallory alloy wheels.

A single glance is all it take to notice the Tiguan's clearly European sophistication - deeper down you'll find some of Volkswagen's most advanced automotive technologies.

A mountain of torque from the Tiguan 130TDI's common-rail, turbocharged diesel engine, and their 4MOTION all-wheel drive, means you'll devour long distances effortlessly.

Spirited driving doesn't get much more than this in an SUV - Volkswagen Tiguan 130TDI R-Line is a wolf in sheep's clothing, churning out 130kW of power at 4300 rpm and 280 Nm of torque at 1700rpm.

Remember when I said I wanted more? I'm getting to that now.

The Tiguan 130TDI R-Line boasts a range of bonus equipment as standard.

The front fog lights, automatic headlights and rain sensing wipers offer convenience in everyday driving scenarios while the dual zone automatic climate control air conditioning, automatic dimming rear view mirror and illuminated vanity mirrors offer both driver and passengers a comfortable ride.

The comfort continues on the inside with a multi-function leather steering wheel cleverly integrated with audio system and hands free telephone operation built in.

The multi-function display system is located between the speedometer and the tachometer, and presents the driver with a wealth of information including basic trip computer functions (driving time, trip meter, average speed, average and assistant fuel consumption etc).

Here's a smart idea - the clever centre arm rest.

The Tiguan features a 'load through' provision for the rear central armrest, folded flat.

This means you can accommodate longer items safely, at cargo floor level, while still maintaining the two rear outer seating positions.

When it's not needed in this way, the armrest features two integrated cup holders.

The option of the supple Vienna leather appointed seat upholstery with R-Line stitched logo on front driver and passenger head restraints provides an extra touch of luxury and exclusivity.

With safety in mind, Tiguan boasts a variety of features including airbags, traction control, anti-lock braking system, brake assist and electronic brake-pressure distribution to name a few.
