A 45-YEAR-OLD man has escaped serious injury after being bitten by a brown snake on a property in Gayndah.

On Thursday afternoon Bundaberg's RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter airlifted the father-of-three after he was struck on the hand by the highly venomous snake.

He was trying to stop his staffordshire terrier from fighting with it.

The helicopter transferred the patient from Gayndah Hospital to Bundaberg Hospital.

He was in a stable condition. His staffordshire terrier was unharmed in the incident.

Its the second snake bite in the region today.
