Get ready for great day of footy Sunday

Rugby league: An initiative will sweep across the Dalby Leagues Club this weekend, as the Western Downs Regional Council holds a GREAT Day.

GREAT, which stands for Get Ready Emergency Action Team, is all about informing the community about how to prepare for such disasters as a fire, flood or storm.

The day has been made possible by funding from the State Government Get Ready program.

Four under-12 teams from across the region will compete for the inaugural Get Ready Cup.

Dalby and Chinchilla both have a team, while there will be combined sides from Miles/Wandoan and Tara/ Jandowae.

Emergency services from across the Western Downs, including the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will run activities and games throughout the day.

Dalby police sergeant Brett Hunter, who will represent QPS on the weekend, is looking forward to the day.

"The teams will be competing in a round robin competition, with the grand final in the afternoon,” Sgt Hunter said.

"The teams playing don't usually get to play each other because Dalby is in the Toowoomba competition, so it will be good see them all together.

"We have gift packs for each of the players to give out.”

The event begins at 9am, with the first game at 9.30am and the grand final from 1.20pm.
