Get the lowdown on new heavy vehicle safety laws

PRIMARY producers will be held to new safety regulations for heavy vehicle transport starting in October and many people have questions about what the new laws will mean for them.

A forum will be held in Dalby from 9-11am next Tuesday for all questions to be answered, and industry members are encouraged to attend.

The forum will be held at the Western Downs Regional Council building in Marble St, hosted by representatives from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Jason Stewart from the NHVR said he wanted to dispel any myths about the new regulations.

"What we are looking at is primary producers play an important role in the safe and reliable road transport for all road users,” MrStewart said.

"Primary producers for almost a decade have had the same legislation to heavy-vehicle safety as other bodies in the chain.

"What we are trying to do is get out there to the primary producer and say these are the changes coming, you probably are already doing these things and these might be some minor changes you need to make.”
