Glamour grey adds Dalby Cup to country cups swag

RACING: Glamour grey Rosie Posie continued on her country cup run, adding the $30,000 Dalby Cup (1400m) to her coffers.

Starting as $4.20 equal favourite alongside stablemate Splitz, the eight-year-old enjoyed a soft run in between horses throughout the early stages.

As rivals scouted wide, apprentice Kate Cowan opted for an inside run, which proved the difference.

As Tabard ($5) hit the front early in the straight, Rosie Posie continued to make ground along the fence, finishing strongly to score by 1 ¼ lengths from Atouchmore ($5), with Tabard in third.

Trainer Matt Kropp said the formlines were in her favour, as was having just 52.5kg on her back.

“If you draw a line through her run in the Gai Waterhouse (Classic), it’s not going back that far,” he said.

“She didn’t have a whole lot of luck, and Skate To Paris finished behind her. Although he didn’t have a lot of luck either, he’s gone on to win in town since.

“To be able to compete at that level and drop back to country cup grade with that weight was a big bonus.

“It was a really good ride. She’s one where you have to judge her in the run. You don’t want to go too early because she can hit the front and be a sitting duck.”

The win marks Rosie Posie’s 11th win from 61 race starts, and Kropp said she is enjoying race as much as ever.

“Until such time as she lets us know she’s not competitive, (part owner) Michael Kelly is more than happy to keep her in work,” he said.

“She seems to love being in work and loves her racing.

“She was a bit quirky early on in her career, but she’s really taken to it and she loves her racing.”

The Dalby Cup success adds to her Warwick Cup win from last year, and Kropp indicated she would likely return to Allman Park to defend her crown on October 10.

Kropp is hopeful of continuing the winning run at Clifford Park this weekend, with Romakash (Toowoomba Cup) and Calm Seeker (Toowoomba Guineas) shaping as his leading contenders.

# KISUKANO (Michael Nolan) was met with strong support in the Pink Ribbon Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast, but was edged out right on the line.

Sent out as a $1.30 favourite, the three-year-old led from a low barrier, engaging in a battle with Epic Girl ($16) throughout the entire straight, only to be nosed out by the barest of margins.

Better Than Best ($3.80) justified strong market support to claim the QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Handicap (1200m) for co-trainers Tony and Maddysen Sears.
