Good boy welcomed to library team
THERE'S a new pup on the block, lending his ears to young readers in the Western Downs.
Trevor has been providing smiles to library visitors every second Friday since August, and will soon become a professional member of the team.
Trevor is in training to become a Story Dog, for a reading program that helps children become more confident in their skills by reading to a dog in a relaxing, non-judgemental environment.
Owner Janette Quince said she nominated Trevor to become a Story Dog because he immediately showed aptitude for the job.
"He loves spending time with children, volunteering at the library and generally being a concierge,” she said.
"He has had to pass an accreditation test, he needs to be able to walk past toys and food, okay with loud noises and able to be handled by people other than his owner.”
Councillor Kaye Maguire said people just go to the library to see Trevor and it would be great to be able to offer the service to the community once he completes his training.
"There aren't many libraries you can walk into and be greeted by such a beautiful dog,” she said.
"Council has received fantastic feedback about not only how lovable he is, but also how much his companionship is valued and appreciated.”
