Goodbye Clive. Palmer disbands party, leaves politics

CLIVE Palmer's time as a political leader is over with the announcement his party will cancel its registration as a party with the Australian Electoral Commission.

The party's chairman and former Sunshine Coast MP, who is currently embroiled in court action regarding his failed Queensland Nickel business, said he'd taken the decision because of current political conditions.

Announcing his personal retirement from politics, he said the party had formed to oppose the carbon and mining taxes - both of which are no longer in existence - and to oppose the 2014 federal Budget and Campbell Newman's former Queensland government.

"I would like to thank the members and thousands of Australians in every state of the Commonwealth who have supported the party and its candidates during the last four years,'' Mr Palmer said in a statement.
