Woman in court for allegedly spitting on police officer

A GOODNA woman who allegedly assaulted a female police officer has fronted court for the first time.

Joyce Poj Tang, 18, was charged earlier this month with one count each of serious assault police, obstruct police and public nuisance.

The charges stem from a late night incident on June 4, 2016 after police were called to a Thomas St address at about 10.15pm following reports of a disturbance.

Police were in the process of arresting Ms Tang for public nuisance offences when it will be alleged she spat in a female officer's face and on her arm.

Ms Tang was then taken into custody where it will be further alleged that she resisted and attempted to kick police.

Ms Tang's legal representative sought an adjournment on Tuesday in Ipswich Magistrates Court and requested the police brief be provided.

Magistrate David Shepherd granted the request and adjourned the matter until July 19.

Ms Tang was one of six people who fronted Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday after being charged with alleged offences against police officers.

Benjamin Luke Demaineuk, Khonoom Brian Devenish-Hand, Brendan Craig Thoms and Noel Andrew Whitton are all facing offences of serious assault or obstruct police.

James Benjamin Russell has been charged with serious assault of a police officer by biting or spiting and assault or obstruct a police officer.
