Have you lost money because of these problem roads?

A NEWLY formed lobby group wants to know how much money businesses and farms have lost due to the poor state of our roads.

The Mundubbera to Jandowae Roads Working Group will lobby the state and federal governments to upgrade the transport corridor along the Mundubbera-Durong and Chinchilla-Wondai roads and it needs input from businesses and farmers.

AgForce deputy chairwoman Georgie Somerset leads the working group and said there was plenty of anecdotal evidence that primary producers avoided the roads out of fear of damaging their vehicles.

"We'll be looking for businesses to provide case studies on how these roads impact on their profitability. We need to get some good information together so we can argue our case effectively," Mrs Somerset said.

The group includes members of the North and South Burnett Regional Councils, the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise and the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation.

As a major transport route connecting the Western Downs, Surat, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and the Burnett, roads have degraded under constant wear and tear.

"The amount of traffic on these roads is significant and the flood events have exacerbated some of the issues. We know in the southern parts some of it is to do with the type of soil the road is built on," Mrs Somerset said.

The group will start with a number of surveys focussing on horticulture and transport.

To provide data for the study phone the Mundubbera to Jandowae Roads Working Group on 4169 5456.
