Henschell shines in green and gold

Traithlon: Representing your country is the pinnacle for any athlete and is an achievement which shows complete dedication.

Dalby State High School teacher Bronwyn Henschell capped a stellar 2018 by representing Australia at the International Triathlon Union World Grand Finale last weekend on the Gold Coast.

Henschell thrived on the big stage, finishing 17th in her age division with an impressive time of 2:18:49.

"It was a 10-month goal but I knew I had qualified for the event in May,” she said.

"It's great to compete in such a prestigious event.”

Henschell said one of the biggest challenges with triathlon is you never know what Mother Nature would throw at you.

"Every course is different and the conditions can be very different,” she said

"It was extremely windy on the Gold Coast; they told us we couldn't use our disc wheels during the bike ride because of the wind.”

Henschell said she was thankful for all of the support from family and friends on the day and she had already set her sights on the next target.

"I'm doing Noosa Triathlon at the beginning of November, but I might do another event between now and then,” she said.
