Why you rarely see Oprah with Stedman

OPRAH Winfrey is notoriously private when it comes to her relationship with Stedman Graham.

The queen of daytime talk, 64, says she's learned a valuable lesson to stop inviting the media to draw speculation where it shouldn't be.

"I've lived, as you have lived, every other week in the tabloids," Winfrey shared with Gwyneth Paltrow in the inaugural Goop podcast.

"I was always glad when you were on … to take the heat off me. I'm glad somebody else is on it."

"Every time I would get so upset about it, Maya (Angelou) would say, 'But babe, you don't have anything to do with that,'" Winfrey said, according to Page Six.

She would respond with tears, "'But they're saying. You know it's not true. You don't know what it's like when people are saying things about you.'"

Angelou shared her wisdom by telling Winfrey, "'But you're not in it. It has nothing to do with you. It has to do with whoever sat down at the computer at that moment,'" Winfrey said.

"It's been happening so long, she actually said, 'Whoever sitting at that typewriter, they're thinking what can we say this week that's going to sell some stories.'"

Ultimately, those stories took a toll on Winfrey.

Thus, she and Graham, 67, made a decision.

"It's also why I stopped making as many public appearances with Stedman," Winfrey added. "Because I realised that every time there's a new photograph, there is a new story. It's an invitation."
