Group calls for authorities to drain quarry after drowning
A FACEBOOK page calling for authorities to drain the dam that claimed the life of an Ipswich teen is gathering support.
The page, Drain Aqua Lakes Quarry for Duncan, has surpassed 3200 likes.
Duncan Wilmott drowned in the quarry filled with water last Monday after jumping from a steep bank and disappearing beneath the surface.
Police and SES volunteers have spent the subsequent days searching for his body - without success.
One of the dams in the area was drained several years ago, in search of the body of murdered Ipswich woman Dulcie Birt.
Ms Birt's body was never found.
The QT has been told that there are extremely high costs involved in draining the quarries.
The water holes are also fed by underground water and constantly replenish.
