Investigators start work on devastating fire

CHARRED wood and smoking tin is all that remain of a high-set house on Rifle Range Rd, Gympie, after a vicious fire tore through the structure on Saturday night.

At about 7pm Queensland Fire and Rescue units were scrambled to the address to find the house engulfed in flames.

This morning both police and Queensland Fire and Rescue investigators were on hand to start what could possibly be a long enquiry into the start of the blaze with preliminary finding yet to be finalised.

The incident is the fifth house fire to occur in the Gympie region in recent times.

Early reports suggest nobody was hurt in the fire.

This latest tragedy follows on from a blaze that destroyed a family home at Pie Creek late last month.

Just 10 days prior to that incident a Curra family shared the same circumstances when their home of 30 years was razed, while a fire at Monkland ended in heart-wrentching circumstances when 12-year-old Alexis Dean was caught in the blaze and died in hospital later from her injuries.

In June a Mother Mountain home was also destroyed by fire, leaving an extended family homeless and sleeping in tents on the property.

A Queensland fire and rescue spokesman said it was a timely reminder to keep smoke alarms fitted and up-to-date, to be cautious with electrical appliances and candles and to ensure access to water sources on properties.
