WELCOME back to the 200mph club Jaguar.

Not since the British brand's XJ220 hypercar of 1992 have we seen a Jaguar capable of the magic 200mph (322kmh) mark, but the new F-Type SVR has been confirmed to target the likes of Porsche's 911 Turbo.

The new SVR, available in coupe and convertible forms, will make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and will go on sale in summer this year.

It is the first time Jaguar has used the SVR name, and the two-seat aluminium sports car is lighter, faster and more powerful than its F-Type, F-Type S, F-Type British Design Edition and F-Type R stablemates.

"The new F-Type SVR is the first series production Jaguar to be developed by special vehicle operations and benefits from everything we know about precision engineering, performance and design," said John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover special operations.

"The result is a 200mph, all-weather supercar that you can drive every day.

"We even made a convertible version so that enthusiasts can revel in the sound from the new titanium exhaust system," Mr Edwards said.

Full technical specification and pricing will not be known for another fortnight (Jaguar is revealing the information on February17), but the SVR should feature the same 423kW 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine as seen in the F-Type Project 7 model, which had a limited and sold-out run of 250 units.

Brian Johnson of AC/DC fame managed to snare one, incidentally.

Revised aerodynamics, all-wheel-drive and an eight speed automatic are also expected in the F-Type SVR.
