Jessie takes the cake as new centenarian

A MAJOR milestone was celebrated at Ningana today, as Dalby resident Jessie Flegler reached her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs Flegler, who's actual birthday was on Sunday, was born in Pittsworth on December 10, 1917.

The new centurion said the key to living a long and healthy life was simple.

"Just be friendly with everybody,” she said.

Mrs Flegler's daughter, Jennifer Gietzel, said the family had a recent history of living until a ripe old age.

"Our relative Ivy passed away a couple of years ago at 105 years old,” Mrs Gietzel said.

"Most of her other siblings lived into into their 80s.”

Mrs Gietzel said her mother was a brilliant role model.

"She has always been a supporter of her husband and is such a loving mother and grandmother.

"She worked alongside Dad on the farm.”

When asked what were some of her proudest moments in life were, Mrs Flegler said being a mother, along with being crowned the grand champion in knitting at the Dalby Show.

In fact Mrs Flegler collected plenty of prizes over the years at the Dalby Show for her knitting.

Mrs Flegler said she really enjoys living at Ningana and was thankful for all the friendly residents and staff.
