Junior star dons maroon
Rugby League: Although it is a relatively small competition of just four teams, the Toowoomba Junior Rugby League's under-15 age group is certainly not void of talent.
An impressive six players from the competition have been selected in the U15s Queensland Schoolboys side that will travel to Mackay later in July to represent their state on the national stage.
Dalby Devils second rower Keanu Wright-Dunrobin is one such player who will don the maroon and test himself against some of the best players of his age in the country, and it is a challenge he has meticulously prepared for.
"I was really happy to be selected,” he said.
"I've been training quite hard and have been working towards it for a while now, so for it to pay off through my selection is really cool.”
This is not the first time Wright-Dunrobin has earned a state selection, having done so a few years earlier when he was selected in the U12s Queensland Schoolboys rugby league side.
That talent and passion for the game has been developed and instilled from a young age, memories Wright-Dunrobin looks back on fondly.
"I've been playing footy since I was about six years old, after my brother introduced it to me. We'd always be kicking the footy around somewhere and from that point on I've just always loved it,” he said.
Wright-Dunrobin also took time to thank those who have played a pivotal role in his success to date.
"Firstly I want to thank my mum, she is always supporting me whether it be with my footy or just in life in general,” he said.
"She has been the biggest support for me.
"I also want to thank Paul and Alma Va'a. They are based in Toowoomba now but they would always take me to training and help out whenever I needed it, which I really appreciate.”
