King tackles teen girl issues

ACCOMPLISHED journalist and author Madonna King has written her eighth book and is hoping to help teenage girls and their families through the "tricky teens”.

Mrs King, who grew up and went to school in Dalby with her five brothers, wrote the book as her own two daughters are approaching the age of 14.

The book, titled Being 14, discusses issues ranging from a lack of sleep to social media, and is the result of extensive research by Mrs King.

Two hundred Australian girls aged 14 were interviewed for the book, as well as school principles, psychologists, CEOs, police and neuroscientists.

Mrs King states that the book also help parents deal with the issues that will occur around this age.

"Being 14 walks parents through issues as varied as pocket money and teen parties, self image and academic pressure, the relationship between teen girls and their mothers, and provides the expert advice on keeping that relationship strong,” Mrs King said.

"Importantly, it is a book that gives our teen girls a voice.

"In it they confide what they really want us to know and the experts provide us with the best way to make our teen girls into awesome women.”

For Mrs King, Being 14 is the voice of a 14-year-old girl in Australia.

"It's your daughter, talking to you. And her hope, beyond anything, is that you will listen,” she said.
