Lakeside cook-off a success
THE annual Easter weekend cook-off was held again down at Lake Broadwater last weekend, with eight teams firing up their camp ovens to claim victory.
The event attracts kitchen gurus from around the region who try their hand at cooking camp food for a panel of judges.
The event began roughly eight years ago, inspired by the love affair that South African residents in the area had with camp-oven cooking.
Event organiser Elize van Wyk, said the event has a little bit of national pride associated with it.
"This has become a little bit of a South African versus Australian cook-off, all in good fun,” Mrs van Wyk said.
"Their were five teams that were South African and three teams of Aussies, which meant there were different ways of cooking and different dishes on display.”
There was a variety of dishes cooked on the day, with pork, chicken, lamb and beef all being cooked as well as a healthy serving of vegetables to complement.
This year's champions of Lake Broadwater were Will Pieterse and Kristie Brandt.
